Farmall H electrical short in ammeter box

I took my ammeter box cover off to hook up my light wires and then when I went to put the cover back on it sparks when it touches the box. I have a short and it appears that it is shorting through the ammeter gauge somehow. The ammeter does work. Any ideas on what to check or has anyone had any experiece with this?

First check for a pinched wire or damaged insulation on the wiring at the box.

Look also for a deteriorated or broken insulating bushings on the ammeter posts where pass they thru the U-shaped clamp bracket.

Another possibility is a short in the ammeter itself - though this one is a long shot...
