1066 cab noise

I bought that 1066 black stripe i wrote about earlier. I decided to keep the cab and save myself a few bucks. But the noise in the cab is horriable. If i add some interior, like foam or somthing to the roof, will it quiet it down at all? I will post pic of it as soon as i can guys. Thanks

You bet, put that foam on everything you can.

Hit the floor and around the dash with a double layer.

there was a pad that covered the tractor hood and sides that extended into the cab also. The foam will help but they are noisy I found the best is a pair of 50cent foam earplugs the cab kept you warm in the winter somewhat cool in the summer and out of the wind but thats about it. The 66 series is a great tractor if used correctly most guys turned them up to 200 hp and then shook the rear ends outpulling to big of loads.

Dunno,

I bought one of those Year Around cabs brand spankin' new and it had all the insulation, but still, was the noisest thing I've ever been in. :>(

However, they've now got a product out there that ya might try. It's called Dynamat and it really does the job. Ya might try that.

Like someone else said, be sure and insulate under the floorboard and around that tractor cowl area too because that is where the noise originates. That roof just reflects it back.

Then, get an extension on that muffler to get the exhaust noise up and over the level of that air intake of the cab.

Randy: My life with a 1066 started out with a new 1066 with factory ROPS cab. It was a hell of a lot quieter than anything else I'd operated at the time. I tried out on demonstration Allis, White and Deere, all new tractors, before buying the 1066, I was not impressed. That Deere was not sound guard. We ran the 1066 15,000 hours. Three items keep the cab mounts in good shape, insulation in good shape and keep that stack 6" above the cab.

Put it this way, I've run tractors built 20 years after the 1066 that don't impress me on noise level. By the way at 67 my family claim I hear things I shouldn't. Except my wife, she calls my hearing selective.

We just open the doors on ours - tends to let some of the noise back out!:^) Seriously, these are good old tractors and will run forever. Good luck with yours!

The cab on this one is a Year-A-Round with no ac or heat. I wouldn"t know about the factory cabs.

Randy If you clean up the sheet metal and get a custom fit insulation kit and install it along with a new head liner and floor mat and make up some rubber cab mounts to put between the cab and the mounting brackets along with a nice thick floor mat it will help a bunch and for me Add HEAT to it . Also install new weather stripping on the doors and windows this will also take some of the rattle and clanging out . Got my one buddy's 966 with a year round on it to redo this year when the weather breaks. His is the same way.

The best thing to do is get a set of ear plugs. That works in my 966.The guy that took the doors off in the summer is right, it is quieter. Also it is much cooler. When you put all the extra padding & that around every thing it makes it harder to work on & sometimes it falls down & makes it shift wrong or with stuff under the platform it could stop the park brake from fully engaging.Just my experence.

Randy: Not a lot of difference, without insulation and rubber mounts they are both a tin box. Take the vet's advice. There are better insulation materials today than back when these were new. I have driven these big tractors with Year-A-Round cab, back when they were relatively new, not a lot of noise difference. Year-A-Round was one of the better after market cabs.

Bear in mind you don't have ROPS, however put those 1066 wheels out to 84" centers, just quite a stable tractor. I've never had a thrill on a 1066 with wheels on 84" centers. I have had thrills with smaller tractors on 72" centers. Dual her up and she'll climb mountains. I've slid sideways down hill with duals on my 1066, believe me that ain't level country.

Best solution I have found; I have the same setup as you. Save your money on the cab insulation and rubber bushings. Buy an iPod, insert earbuds into ears, cover ears with good quality noise suppressor muffs and enjoy your tractor! Tractor runs great, does everything you"ll need it to do, but it does it LOUDLY!!
