Folks,

I need a loader. I run Fords, and have been on the lookout for a Ford thousand series with a loader. No joy. My local John Deere dealer has a beat looking 504 on the lot. Here are some pictures:

There are a bunch more photos at the URL below.

How much is this 504 worth? What I don't know is whether the TA is healthy, or whether it runs well. It's been on the lot for months and months.

Thanks!

504 with loader pictures...

Well as far as i can tell from what i see i am thinking 3500 tops And as for the T/A ya buy it thinking that it is out , that way if it does happen to work then ya can jump up and down with joy . 504's were a good tractor , enough Hp. to do the job and small enough to be handy.

It's worth about half what the dealer is asking for it.

A tractor like that is only sitting on the dealer lot because he wants way too much for it and won't budge.

You know it needs front tires, the back probably came from a combine(yellow wheels)and are 4ply. Check for free play in the front end they are bad about wearing in the linkage, seat 150.00, 20.00 worth of paint and a paint roller it would look good from 10ft away. It really doesn`t look all that bad to me. offer cash and have it in your pocket not I`ll have to ask my wife,2800.00 it is worth more with a little TLC.

Make sure you identify it is a TA or a reverser. Either way would be ok, just know what you're buying and how to use. try out in low gear first if not sure. although the shift won't go into reverse if you have a reverser. Could you imagine the results if you pulled the lever back thinking it was a TA in Road gear? at least if you're using proper TA methods you'd only pull it back starting out...

From the picture i think it is a TA.

Gentlemen,

Thank you for the replies. I called the dealer this morning: they are asking $5500. That's so much, I don't even want to make an offer....we'd be so far apart on the price, that we'd be wasting each others time. It's been my experience that this dealer will 'move' a little, but not much.
In doing a bit of home work on this tractor, I learned quite a bit - and enjoyed sifting through the traffic on this forum. Thank you for your replies - I do appreciate it!

Best regards,

Ray Wilson
