Cub trouble

Well even though I knew better I bought a tractor that was "running when parked". Everything looked good, pulled the dipstick seemed like nothing but oil. I finally had a few minutes and thought I'd dump the oil before trying to start it. The first thing out the drain was some really geen liquid! Bad news. It looks though that the antifreeze was of high concentrate and should not have allowed the thing to freeze. It's not that cold around here. So I hope to be lucky and find a bad head gasket. Are there any other "easy" fixes? No external leaks or cracks that I can see.

the c-60 cub motor does not run sleeves, so you can rule that out as a possible source of a/f.(however it is possible that someone bored the motor and did install sleeves). i would drop the oil pan and see where the af is coming from. with any luck it will be a leaky head gasket.

Probably it is just a bad head gasket. Been there done that more times than I care to remember. Cracked heads do happen yes but more than likely it is the gasket. Check the GSS-1411 Service Manual or GSS-1007 Engine Service Manuals under Blue Ribbon Service Manuals on the Cub Manual Server. Hope that helps.

You really should have the 3 basic manuals.. Owner's, GSS-1411 and the TC-37 series Parts Catalog... No Cub should be without them :)

Thanks everybody. It will be 2 or 3 weeks until I can get the Cub inside, I've got a painting job taking up my entire shop. I will report back though my findings. I do have some Cub manuals I'll need to locate them. I have another Cub that's been in the family for 50 years. I'd planned to put the motor from the one I just bought into our old one as it is entirely worn with a mag and govenor problems--all could be fixed though. Depending on the problem we may change the swap plan!
