C221 Engine on 205 Combine

Does anyone know if the C221 gas engine was only used on the 205 & 315 combines. The CNH online parts exists for only the 315 combine, but no listing for engine parts. Was this engine used on any tractors that might be in the CNH online parts. I have the original HT-48 205 parts catalog, but some part numbers have changed. Thanks.

FWIW, 94 Clevite catalog also shows it in:
303 combine;
2606 tractor;
3616 tractor.
Fel-Pro catalog also shows UC221 Power Unit, and says the 2606 also came with the C301.

If you go to the caseih online catalog and type in 221 or any engine number for that matter, they list the engine separately.

noncompos, Just wondering what all engines your catalogs show for the 2606. Mine has what appears by the paint (the industrial tractor is all yellow except for the bright red engine) to be a replacement engine. I've kinda assumed it is a C-263 by the larger carb size (IH carb with 1 3/8" throat while most others have a 1 1/4" throat). I haven't been able to match the block casting numbers to anything. The I&T manual lists for the 606, 2606 a C-221 with a 1 1/4" throat on the carb and also lists for the 560, 660 a C-263 with a 1 3/8" throat on the carb. That is how I arrived at assuming it was a C-263.

I can dig out the block casting number if anyone can match it. The case dealer couldn't through their system. Thanks.

BC: I don"t have that much later stuff covering IH; the Fel-Pro catalogs are the only ones showing both the C221 and C301 gas for the 2606; a couple others only show the C221 (they all show the diesel 236 as well). None show any 263 with the 2606.
The C263 does show for the 656 and 2656, which I assume is the next step up from yours.
Parts catalogs often don"t show all the engine options available, and I don"t have anything that would ID the engines.
As yours would logically seem to be a 263, and with the 301 either an option or a later upgrade, I wonder if the 263 was a drop-in fit that someone put in.
Sorry I can"t be on any real help. Try posting it as a new question; someone"s bound to have the answer.

bc,
Thanks for the information. Was now able to find the C221 engine in the Caseih online parts by typing "221". Needed the gasket for the spin-on oil filter adapter. Turns out to be the same gasket as the oil filter cartage on a 706 tractor. Al

Thanks noncompos. I'm just guessing it is a c-263. I can't match the block number and for all I know it might be a c-301. I'll search the online parts for the 301 and see what matches.

I've figured out that parts like the plugs, oil filters, carb, and dist. parts are pretty much the same for most of those 1960's tractors. Anyway I'm using a 263 oil filter and since most engines had an adaptor to go from the old cartridge in a can to the screw on type, they might all use the same filter anyway.

To get the needle valve for the carb I had to use the 656 ih tractor. Didn't know then that the engines were listed separately.

AJB, what is the part number for your block on your c-221? I think it is on the distributor side of the block in the cast iron.

Mine has a casting # of 379815R1. After doing some looking tonight, I found a block rebuilding company on ebay with that casting number saying it is a c-221.

Only thing that I can't match in the caseih parts catalog is the side discharge out of the exhaust manifold of the 221. The 263 and up has an up discharge. Mine has the muffler coming out of the top.

Apparently someone put a larger carb on mine.

I'll do some more checking.

Thanks Owen. Guess I'll never know till I pull a head or pan. Guess I'll lean towards it being a c-263.

For all practical purposes though, the 221, 263, 282, and 301 all use the same plugs, points, condenser, coil, oil filter, etc.

Well I just looked this afternoon. Mine has the exhaust coming out the side and then elbows up and over and back up again.

Unless both the 221 and 263 use a side discharge exhaust manifold, then mine is probably a 221 according to the caseih engine parts guide.

Thanks.
