Hi All,

It appears that I'm losing oil around the front of the oil pan. The
obvious assumption is that it's a bad oil pan gasket. I plan to
replace the gasket but I'm wondering if there is anything else I
should be looking at or aware of.(I did read an old post that said
to beware of cracks in the pan by the bolts.) Any particular
fashion that this replacement is best done or is it as simple as
dropping off the pan and replacing the gasket?

Any thoughts or feedback much appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

IIRC there are four long bolts (two in front and two in back) of the oil pan which must go back in the proper location. If the tractor has low oil pressure, you may want to check the oil pump cover gasket and check the oil pump cover for flatness.

Are you sure it is the pan leaking. It may be coming from the front pulley seal. This is more common than a pan gasket leak.

Brian:

Some old posts also mention the possibility of the oil pan flange being bent or warped. I think there was a post a week or so ago that described how to straighten it if necessary.

Brian: Look above the pan, like Teddy I suspect front crank seal could be the real problem. If it dribbles oil on ground or floor if left idling, your almost certain it's the crank seal. Just look that one over well, before you decide.

I think the longer bolts go through into the block. You need to use sealer on the threads to keep oil from leaking down the bolts when you reassemble.
