F14 Starter Project

Finally got my starter installed on my F14. Many, many thanks to Fawteen for all the information he supplied through this project.

The first picture is of the flywheel laying in the kitchen table while waiting for the ring gear to heat up in the oven .... my wife was of course thrilled when she walked in and caught me.

The second picture is of the mount that I built for the starter. It wasn't quite finished when this picture was taken, but I had it on the tractor while checking clearances for the starter. I did go back and finish welding the holes closed.

The third picture is of the starter mounted in place.

Now we gotta l'arn ya that whenever ya need to heat tractor parts in the oven, ya send the missus to the county seat with an empty can so she can bring you back five gallons of sailboat fuel and a tube of relative bearing grease.

Oh, yes, and . . . NICE job!

I have to bribe my hubby to help me with mine. (He likes those green ones better) Look's great by the way. You can use the oven just don't try rebuilding a motor on my dinning room table. I get a little mad. Put news paper on the table first!

Well if you notice I did at least lay a towel down to keep from scratching the table....problem was I grabbed the towel from the bathroom linen closet. LOL

Oh No! That's not good. Always dig to the very back of the cabnet for the older ones. Better yet grab yesterdays news paper. Keeps ya out of the dog house. Tip's from a tractor lovin wife.

I'm seein' a heated shop in your hubby's future! Bench, stool with a tracot seat, engine stand, refrigerator . . . Next anniversary, mayhaps? "8^)

Working on it as we speak. Only one problem. I want it painted red, he wants it painted green. Keeps spice in the marriage!!!!

Slick mount you fabricated there! I appriciate custom fabrications if they are well built and look good (clean welds). You seem to have done both. Let us know how it works!!!

Very Nice, Doug!

I don't think you'll have any strength issues, that looks very rugged and well-made.

Glad my pictures were useful.

That is the kind of modification that speaks of dedication and quality awareness. Nice! Good help to Fawteen as well. JimN

I spent many hours fitting and refitting to make sure everything mated up correctly. My Dremel tool was very useful in grinding out the clutch cover to ensure there were no gaps around the starter, as well for cutting the flywheel housing to get good clean cuts. I knew there was no way to make it look factory, so I made it look as good as I could. Mostly I was after functionality, but a quality job made me feel even better about having done it.

TO enter a local bar, you walk thru a hallway. One side is paint in Green Bay Packer colors and the other side is Vikings Purple and yellow.
You can't please everyone, but a person can respect the attempt to compromise.

Just don't blend the colors.

Very nice job! That little starter might flip that tractor upside down so be careful on first try! LOL!! You should have seen my second wifes looks when she opened up the dishwasher and found it full of parts! She just shook her head and never said a word!
