I was putin' the head bolts back in the Super A engine a few minutes ago,( this is the block that I punched out the holes in the bottom web for the 3 1/4" sleeves) realised I don't have any head gasket sealer, stopped to make a fast run to the parts house, thought I'd better get on here and ask about the HYD. oil level in the Hyd.unit. I hope to hear this "Young DARLIN" runnin' by dark ( Well She's younger than I am ), I think the Hyd. pump runs when the motor is runnin', I don't want to burn a pump up, I can't find My Super A book, Thanks for the help

Thanks,

Depends on what all you have there, Bill. The basic block with nothing but the lift arms on the sides, it take 6-3/4 pints. Add more for any remotes. In any event, the correct fill level is just to the bottom of the fill plug on the left side.

Be sure the rockshaft arms are in the rear postion(cylinders retracted) when you fill the reservoir. When the cylinders are extended, there is less volume in the reservoir.

Bill: Just to add to what Scotty and Haas said, before you put the hydraulic cap back in place, with tractor at low idle work the hydraulic levers full stroke 3-4 times to expell any air or excess fluid. This system is sealed, and there is a frost plug type of device in front of unit behind rockshaft. Too much oil in the reservoir can pop that plug. Not serious but time consuming and messy.

Hey..Hey, Thank Yaw'all....Didn't quite make it today, where I have to work on tractors, the lightin' is not good, been usein' the big lights from slant eyed side of the world, mess up and glance into them is like a weldin' flash, pulled the dist. from an A I just tuned up,when dark caught Me. Got aggravated at gettin' arc ed out. I'm not puttin' any money in this one until I'm sure it is gonna go, pulled the carburator also, had that A runnin' great if this Super A does like I hope it will I'll go thru the dist. and throw a Carb, kit at the Super A.... tomorrow A.M. should "TELL THE TALE" Thanks for the info about the Hyd system

Bill: About the light and one's ability to see. This afternoon after snow stopped, I decided to get 130 out and plow off my yard and driveway. Last time I had 130 out two days ago it wasn't working quite right, however I hadn't decided the problem.

This afternoon it had gone down hill and by 4:30, I could see finishing my plowing was going to require some fixin. You guessed it, points and condenser. By the time I had the old removed, it was getting dark enough I had to go back to house for my reading glasses, then it just got darker. I swear those two little screws that hold condenser and half of points, have gotten smaller in the past 45 years. I've had cateract surgery and that damn artifical light just don't cut it anymore.
