New restoration project

I posted here about a Cub I bought, approx. 10 days ago. Looks like it is a 1950 model as some here suggested. I've pwr washed it twice and it appears to have two coats of red and one of white. I really don't want a white cub. Is there any good reason that it should be that color? Did the factory repaint these tractors red or is this something the owner did?

I dont know the serial #s but IH paint some Cuds, A's and C's white as a promotion in 1950. With that being said when I sanded down my 53 Super C the primer was white for some reason. And Im sure no Super Cs came out white. I doubt a white cub has any more value than a red one but thats just my thoughts. Someone way smarter than me will jump in here in a min.

In a nutshell, an unknown number of Cubs, Super As, and Cs were painted white at the factory in early 1950 for IH's white demo program, and sent to dealers.

When the program was over, dealers were instructed to paint the tractors red and sell them.

A well-restored true white demonstrator would be worth a little bit more. You can paint it whatever color you wish, but some may recommend that you somehow document that the tractor was a white demonstrator if you paint it red, so that a future owner will know.

J, Accepted #99536--106517 range
Jan. through March No one knows if all cubs in that range were white. If you have one it is one of a limited amount and yes they are sote after some guy look for them. You can dockument the paint with pictures for the future and paint it Red if you like. oldiron29

I have an originally white C. Personally, I think white is ugly, only my opinion. I took some pictures, took it to bare metal primed and painted it red. The data I have shows that the last white Cub was 106511, not 517; I note that I scratched out the 7 and replaced it with a one, don't remember the details. Info came from the deceased Richard Lantis, A former IH dealer, as well as his father before him, who was an expert on white tractors.

I think they used a white primer. When I repainted my 54 MTA, the bottom layer was definately white.

IH didn't use primer in that time period, it had likely been repainted, using primer.
