Whats this Cub worth?

my grandpa has a Cub that i'd like to buy from him. i think its a '61, but i can tell you for sure its the last style farmall cub before they went to the international cub. anyway, it has a drawbar, turf tires, a set of A-B weight in the rear, deluxe seat, snow plow with brackets for front and belly mount, hydralics, orignal 6 volt ( i would convert to 12 ) adjust able front axle, and buzz saw, and a 3 point (yes a 3 point not a 1 point fast hitch) ok heres the bad. when the motor was rebuilt 20 or so years ago, the guy didn't put in a new oil pump. so when working the tractor and it gets hot it rattels, and has no (almost no) oil pressure. it would need a new crank or the crank re-ground and new bearings. my grandpa has been running 50 weight oil in it for about 10 years to "get it by" i guess if it matters, the paint tires and seat cushion are all in good shape. so now the biggie, what it worth? thanks jk

I would think twice about converting to 12V. If it has worked for 40+ years as 6V why not keep it that way? New (heavy guage) battery cables usually correct any electrical problems. Low oil pressure is not unusual in old tractors. Rebuilding the oil pump probably will fix that. As for price, that kinda depends on your relationship with GrandPa. If one of my kids or grand kids wanted one of my tractors I'd give it to them or atleast give them a real good price. Be careful about causing friction with other relatives thou. In my area Cubs go for $2,000 to $3,000 in the condition you discribe and with those attachments. Somewhat less IF it really does need repairs as you describe . Use the "Serial Numbers" tab under "Research & Info" at the left side of this page to get the correct age of the tractor. Wish I had one of my GrandPa's tractors. Dave

I think it's worth whatever price you and your grandpa agree on. Doesn't sound like you want to make money off your grandpa. Sure wish I had my grandpa's Allis WC or his Massy Harris 30. rw

If you show serious foundational involvement, he should be finding a way to make it a sweet deal. Tell him you are participating in this forum. Also explain your intent to make it right and keep it in the family!
Tell him you respect the price he sets and if it --can-- be met either in a lump, or over time, that you will do it. Tell him a bit of your finances if he does not know, so he can be fair.
I'll add to the advice below. The oil pump is a built into the block. The tractor must be split to get at the pump cover. If the gears have worn into the bushing, and (thus) worn into the engine casting, it is tough to get it to pump well. Some parts (gear and shaft might be available, but I do not know where. Clearance the end plate with thin gaskets to .001 to .0005" when tightened. Prime the pickup by using assembly lube in the pump gears, and inject oil into the gallery until the oil filter is full with a small pump, or a pump oil can. Best of luck, JimN

Sounds like it needs the engine overhauled. I wouldn't give over $2,000. We bought a '77 cub in like new condition from original owner for $3,000 with implements.

thanks for the advice guys. he does know what my finaces are like, thats why i wanted to give him my tax return as a payment, we've all heard the saying "money talks, bull$hit walks". i will talk to him and see what he says.
