O/T Briggs and Stratton Engine

The reason I am asking this group is that I have found that a lot of people here know a lot of stuff.... so, here goes with my problem.

I have a very old Briggs and Stratton horizontal Shaft engine. Not overhead valves.

I am rebuilding this engine. The sheet metal on it was very rusty, I removed it, and not thinking, I threw the piece with the aluminum data plate into the muratic acid. The data plate is of course history. Now my problem is, how on earth am I going to identify this unit so I can buy parts for it?????? I think I have gotten myself into a mess...I hope someone knows how to salage my situation.

The thing learned is...do not put aluminum in muratic acid!!!

The small air cooled engine forum over at smokstak DOT com is a very knowledgable group. Pictures will certainly help...

Tom:
Here is a shot in the dark; I had an old Briggs & Stratton horizontial shaft engine my father and I rebuilt about 1957. It had to be from the late 1940's. For some reason I remember the model. It was a "WI". (Note - not W1, but WI.) Hope this helps.
