Transplanting 560/706/806 wide front ends onto an M...

I've seen several postings stating that a wide front end from a 560/706/806 (and I assume 756/856) will bolt directly under the FRONT of an M, but that fitting the REAR mount requires "some modifications". I'm itching to order a beefier new Schwartz front(for 560/706/806/756/856) with hubs so I can run larger flotation tires on my M, but I want to be sure this is really do-able before I lighten my wallet.

So, two questions for anyone who has tried this (or thought about it as a Farmall expert):
1. Do you agree that the 560/706/806 wide fronts will directly bolt up in FRONT on the M without modification to the front end or to the M itself?
2. What SPECIFIC modifications would have to be made to the REAR mount or to the M itself (steering?) to make this work?

Much thanks!

Forget the other tractor front ends and buy the HEAVY Schwartz front end made for the M.

TS Elloit: Why punish yourself with modifications, the axle tube, wheels and spindles will be same on all of M, 560, 706 and 806.

The Schwartz heavy duty for the M comes with the heavy duty spindles and six bolt hubs that will allow you to install those big floatation tires.

Why be concerned about the 560, 706, 806, etc.?

You guys made my day - I was always thinking the hubs on Schwartz's M still required the old cast wheels.

Easy decision now - THANKS!

Thanks, Rusty. I'll make sure I get the heavy duty front. On Schwartz heavy fronts then, is the tire/spindle clearance the same for both M and 560/706/etc.? Just curious.

These tires and wheels are the original 9.5Lx15 off of my 966.

Clearance is a function of the wheel not the front end. These are mounted in the "close" position.

Also and for what it is worth, you'll want the heavy duty torque motor on your power steering too.

I would assume that it is, but I can't find the exact specs to say for sure. The clearance needed for the bigger tires would mostly depend on the backset of the wheels you choose. You need to determine the size of the tire you will be using, and then order a pair of wheels that will accommodate those tires.

If you do want to a newer style wide front on an M all you need is the bracket that bolts to the frame rails and holds the ball and socket joint at the back of the wide front. You can get these from A&I if not other places for under a $100 I think. Lee

Allan -

This looks really good on your M. I"m looking forward to getting that same look and strength (form follows function, right?) on mine.

Sure appreciate your responses, to me and to other people"s posts. I learn something all the time.
