I wired my BN to 12 volt last summer using the Delco SI alternator. Everything works well but I didn't put the diode in the exciter wire to the alternator so I just unhook the battery when I'm not using it. I stopped at Radio Shack yesterday and got a diode part # IN4005. On the package it says-Forward current:1A and Max surge current:30A On Bob M's site I noticed he used part #IN4001 but wondered if this one would work OK instead. Thanks Bob

Bob - The 1N4005 is identical to the 1N4001 only it has a PIV (peak inverse voltage) rating of 600 volts instead of 50 volts. It'll work fine!

Tip: To protect the diode in the event of a short circuit wire a 10 ohm to 30 ohm, 1 watt (or greater) resistor in series with the diode.
