M carburetor

I need to send the carburetor from my "M" to get an overhaul. I'm looking for someone who works on them.

If you have the time and the patience to tear it apart it isn't a bad job. Just take it apart and take your time make sure you clean out every passage. It comes apart real easy and by doing it yourself you know what you've got and have the satisfaction of a job well done.

I agree about rebuilding yourself. I wouldn't want to try on a holly 4 bbl, but these things are stone simple. I'd get a good kit, a couple cans of carb cleaner, some rubber gloves, and have at it. Shouldn't take a couple hours. Even if ya get it wrong you're only out a few bucks for the kit.

Holley 4 barrels are pretty simple, and have way fewer places for the dirt and crud to hide in. A can of spray carb cleaner and 2 hours might be enough for a quick tune-up on an M carb, but you are NOT going to do a full rebuild in that amount of time. That spray can of cleaner should be used only as a final follow up to a thorough cleaning.
 
Thanks for the reply Rusty, I don't honestly know much about auto carbs, being a diesel guy. They look awfuly complicated though. I have had pretty good luck with the meathod I described on farmall carbs though. Different strokes.....

A carburetor removed from a running tractor is one thing. A carburetor removed from a fence row derelict is quite another matter. I mostly get to work on the latter where a rebuild turns into more of a resurrection.
 
That is a good point. I've never run into many issues w/ serious gunk buildup, leaking float or the like. A simple clean up and rebuild kit has always treated me ok.
