I recently purchased a 560 diesel and was wondering what is considered normal "blowbye" for the crankcase breather tube. It has no issues with power or using oil. The only thing I have to compare with is an old Ford pickup from my youth, and I don't remember it having that much air flow coming from the breather tube. Thanks for the input!

In this weather, and not knowing history, I would not worry if it is starting and running well. If there is a chance to let it sit for a two day period, and you then gently open the oil drain plug, you can determine if there is coolant getting into the oil. If it is not being used hard when run it may just be condensation being forced out. starting response and rapid cleanup of white smoke speak to good compression. If it has no water in the oil, I would wait until warmer weather to diagnose. JimN

Blow by should not be more then a lite haze . If she is breathing heavy it could be just moisture But i doubt it , more likely she is getting tired or it may have some broken rings from the use of either she go or either she blow. The only way to tell is you guessed it tear down .

If it were mine, I'd drain the oil [unless you already have] & change the filter. Get a good quality 20-20W oil for cold temps or 30 for warmer parts of the country. We never ran cheap oil in our 560 & never had trouble. Same for 10-W-30 automotive oil. If you run multi-viscosity quality oil, you will probably be O.K. See how she does after the oil change.

Guess I'd be more concerned about the pressure of the blowby. Can you hold your hand over the tube for very long and does it leave an oil ring on your hand? Is there oil around the end of the tube on the tractor and on the ground if left sitting for a while?

If you take out the oil cap, does it blow drops of oil out along with the smoke? Is there enough pressure to blow out your oil cap unless it is screwed down to where it is expanded tight?

My gas 2606 does all that along with that blue oil smoke that isn't nice to breathe. After a half hour the smoke isn't as bad but still under pressure. It doesn't use much oil and I don't use it much so I'm in no hurry for an overhaul. It starts and moves hay.

Thanks for the info! No oil leaking from the end and pressure is not extreme. I need it to move a NH 276 baler on 40acres. I guess I have next winters project! Thanks again guys! Glad I found a site like this one.

we had a 276. Dealer told grandpa when he bought it with a good windrow you can keep a bale in the air at all times.
My uncle's in-laws broke down and asked grandpa to bale he said sure have it ready and wagons waiting when I get there. They didn't and decided to stack it on the wagons.

He proved the dealer right that day.
He liked running it with the 786.
