looking at a 460

I am looking at a 460 tractor for use for moving snow and maybe putting on a snowblower. The one I was interested in looks pretty good but I know little about IH. What should I look out for or beware of. Any info would be helpful. They want $6000 for it, wide front with loader.

Gas or Diesel, $ unless it is inshow room condition and good internally I would think $2000 to $3000 never $6000. My boy would kill me, but I have a diesel I would sell for that $6000.

The tractor must be in near perfect condition and come with a year warranty for that price. If it is perfect, OK but that tractor can be found for 1/3 less in great shape. (opinion) No issue with the tractor they are very good. Many components need to be checked by a competant IH mechanic (old guy that gets 100$ for a real examination at power/speed pull and PTO). WOOOoooo 6 grad for a 460 what is this one that was hidden away since new with no run time on it . That tractor is way over priced 25-3500 tops . Now the down side of a 460 is that it is only about 47-49 HP. Not enough to run a snow blower big enough to cover the wheel tracks .

Uncle's auction last month -- 460 gasser rebuilt engine new paint One long dent in the hood, fast hitch in perfect working and looking shape other than the dent went for around 3500.

6 grand will buy you a much nicer newer tractor if you keep looking.

If you are willing to spend $6000...look for an 806, then you will be able to run a snow-blower nicely.

Sounds high, but what kind and how new of loader does it have on it? A good 460 runs from $2500 to $4500 (the higher end is on a dealer's lot). A decent/good loader runs $2000/$4000 - a cheap loader can be a few hundred dollars.

As for what to look out for on a 460 - make sure the TA works. The other thing is remember it has a 2 point of fast hitch (if equipped) - not a three point hitch that nearly all "modern" equipment uses. This may influance its ability to properly handle a snow blower.

A 460 is "rated" 49 hp at the PTO - but that's when it was new 45-50 years ago.

I bought a 59 460 with diesel and loader for $2500 about 30 years ago. I think the dealer saw me coming when I paid his asking price for it. That is when it would have been considered old used equipment and not an antique.

I recently purchase a 460D. Real good shape, good tin. It came with a Farmall / IH #52 loader. Paid $2500. I think I got a pretty sweet deal. What do you all think. As for spending $6k, seems way to high.

2pt w/ 3pt adapter will run the snow blower. My uncles did anyway, a fairly large 3 stage.

I'm not trying to advertise or sell you a tractor here, but I've got one here with 4 brand new tires, fast hitch, good TA, everything works right down to the cigareete lighter and horn for 3750.00. If I would ever take the time to learn how to post pictures I would post them. That should give you some negotiating power with seller.
