Snowblower on 666

Someone locally is selling an 8' wide, dual auger snowblower. Does anyone know what I should look for when I check it out? I figure I'd look over the drive mechanism and check out the cutting surface. Is there anything else? Also, I would be using this on a 666. Does anyone know whether 60 HP is enough for an 8' dual auger?

Look over the drive chain and cogs carefully for signs of excessive wear. If the cog teeth are worn thin near the ends and have a slight bend to them they are done and the chain that caused this is done too. Chain should not play side to side, if it does its badly worn. (All this can be replaced if the price of the blower is right..$200 t0 $300 in parts. Check the gear box for leaks and any play when you turn it back and forth by hand. Your 666 should handle all but the deepest drifts that are higher than the blower..in which case you raise the blower a couple of feet and make a pass then drop the blower and clean up.Your lowest gear and range in reverse will let you blow deep and heavy snow without any problem.

Dunno,

I'm for sure no expert on snowblowers, but just don't think that's gonna work.

Been wrong a million times before tho. :>(

That is a lot of blower on a 666 . And also being that ya have only two choices on reverse . Ya did not say if it was a gas or diesel . With a diesel ya can always turn up the wick a bit , with a gasser your pretty much stuck with the power. I know that a 7 footer double auger blower was all that my one friends 584 wanted and it turned a whisker over 65 hp. As at times back in 77-78 he would help me with snow removal. And as i can remember rev. was to fast in low revs with the t/a in low. Always thought that them blower would be better on the ft then on the rear .

Ya,

Like I say, I'm no guru on snowblowers in any way shape or form, but that 8' double auger that I have will just simply work the snot out of a 115 horse tractor in heavy stuff.

Not to mention how darned heavy that rascal is.

i have an 8ft double auger behind my 5250(105 pto hp) and it struggles a lot in anything deeper than 8 inches of snow making the first cut. after the initial cut you can just take narrower passes. i've seen an 8ft dually make a MX240 bark.(in deep snow)
i think you'd be a lot happier with a smaller blower.

I've got a gas 560 that's rated 61 HP at the PTO.
I can give her about all she wants with a 7'
wide single auger.

I cant help you to much but if the price is right buy it and give it a try. If its to big fix it and sell it and make a little money off it.

My dad has a JD 5500N and a old 6ft snow blower. We had about 3ft of hard packed snow and the engine didnt know the blower was there but the blower couldnt move the snow fast enough. My dad wants to find a double 6ft.
