M TA Value?

I found a M TA. Not running, sounds like a engine timing issue not a fuel or spark problem.(gear, bolts on camshaft bad?)Tractor just quit running. Tin work is very nice, perfect IH widefront, rear rubber poor, has a fast hitch. What is it worth as is??

I guess it depends on how bad you want it and how much the seller wants to get rid of it. To be on the safe side, I would offer $800, see what response you get and go from there. That is just my opinion.

What are you out of your cotten picken mind 800 bucks for a S/MTA with wide ft.let lone a fast hitch . In todays market for a dead MTA you had best be thinking of 1800-2500 .

Like I said, it depends on how much someone wanted one. The price of everything depends on how much someone wanted to spend. I agree that the MTAs are expensive. But even with the WFE and 2 point hitch....

He asked for opinions. I gave mine. People can agree or disagree.

"see what response you get and go from there"

I think Tractor Vet has given a pretty fair assessment of what the response would be. I like to dicker too, but try NOT to offend the guy to the extent that he chases me off the property. I'm not much for fleecing widows and orphans either. Really an offer that low would have to be left to those who are reselling for profit.

Offering the man 800.00 is the quickest way I can think of to get thrown off his place and have him not be willing to sell it to you at ANY price. IH wide front will bring 800-1200 any day. Fast hitch will bring 350 to 500. Grilles bring a minimum of 350 if they are decent. Hoods about the same. Anything you pay less than 2000 consider a bonus.

Thanks for the info. I wondered what a nice wide front was worth. Did any of these tractors come from the factory with a fast hitch?

Have to agree with Jesse. Unless you post a picture to show what you are getting it's tough to say. Value depends a lot on where it's located. Some people just have to much money to spend on a tractor. The guy should not be offended since he is the one asking. Without knowing what is wrong with the engine you can get $$$$ tired up in one fast. Since it doesn't run it's hard to say if anything is wrong with rear end, transmission, or even if the TA works in the tractor. It might be just a parts tractor.

At an auction it would probably bring $4000--they don't give those away. Engine problems seem minor.

I went to a flea market several years and saw a wide front SMTA photo on a vendor's bulletin board.
Asking price was $1000.

I bought it for $800 the following day. It was parked in the weeds of an auto salvage yard. It was a non runner and I still haven't gotten around to working on it.

I watched one sell at auction a couple months a go, no fenders, badly bent hood and grill, junk tires, would'nt run and solid rust= $3400 northern Illinois
