I need some help from you Red Power guys out there. I have a Farmall 300 that is presumably the stock 33 hp. I pull with it and would like to increase the hp to be a little more competitive. I would like to increase the hp 10-15 hp, but I also don't want to start spending thousands of dollars. What options do I have and do you recommend any particular products? I assume the first place to start is bigger pistons (fire crater or hi power), but what size would you recommend? Also, would I benefit from putting a head from a 350 on, or are the heads exactly the same? I'd appreciate any advice you can provide.
 
Well always keep this in mind HORSE POWER EQUALS Money. so if the money thing is a issue here the cheap way is going to a overbore kit and using high altitude pistons , now i am not talking a pop up or a step head here i am talking about a set of pistons for above 8500 ft. Next some head work like a bigger intake valve some carb work reworking the dist. having the cam rebuilt as i am sure that with it's age the lobes are not what they use to be and a balance job on everything . With this work you should see about 10-15 more ponys . But keep in mind here that if by chance ya do start knocking the guys that win all the time socks into the creek that they won't spend more bucks on there's as they are the ones that can not stand to be beat. So the battle will be on and they will be the first to say your cheating.
 
IH Red Rules: I've never seen a 33 hp Farmall 300, and I remember starting out with a new one. Ours was 20% over from the day it was new. Dealer once told me they all came that way.

Those were the days when you could look at the IH specs or Nebraska test and count on that new tractor being well in excess of ratings.
