In rebuilding a 140 engine, we got the crank out last night. The mains have stamped on them:
Fm HH.002 U.S., below that 360223R1(a part number?) then below that 74 H24.
1.Would I be correct in assuming that the crank has been turned one time? The bearings do not look scarred, however the tractor could not maintain good oil pressure when it was running. I'm planning on taking the crank, block, and head(new valves ect.) to the machine shop to be checked.
2. Will the crank need to be turned again or can the same size bearings be used?
Thanks for any imput.

Well from what your telling us that engine was rebuilt once somewhere around 74-75 or so and now you are having and oil pressure issue. So now it is time to get the crank turned and polished and new bearings to fit . My take .010 to clean the crank up and maybe more depends on how out of round it is . Next will be the cam bearings So when ya take the block crank head also take the cam and have that checked also . Now that ya have that covered next is the oil pump . Do it wright the first time and be done with it.

Now i know i am not the leading guru on the A-140 But i also stated to take the Cam in also and this way they can check the bore in the block to the surface on the cam bearing and see what it is then if there is tomuch then either build up and regrind the cam or bore the block and install bearings to get it back in specs so that it will make good oil pressure. Where there is a will there is a way to make it work .

When a crankshaft is turned lets say .010 or .020 the machinest if he is a reputable one will always identify what has been done.He does this by using a metal stamp to label his work.Lets say he turns the main journals to .010 undersize.Hie mark would look something like this M .010.If he also turned the rod journals .010 his mark would be R .010.Most of the time these marks won't be in the same area as any cast marking's such as part numbers or foundry marks. When you take your shaft to the shop they will mic it and tell you what it needs.
