Haulers from this website

Anyone make use of this feature? I get pretty good responses when I make inquiries but it concerns me just a little that you really don't know the person. I'll say up front that I have never had a bad contact thru the forums for any reason...quite the contrary. Still, I don't want to be stupid. Anyone have a bad experience? Is there any way to check out a hauler? Any tips?

I know the feeling!!! Recently I bought a tractor from a dealership in MO. (It is a REALLY nice tractor). I bought it on faith..I mean it is a 51 year old piece of machinery. The dealership can arrange hauling but it would be when the guy got around to it..and then it would cost me $225 more than the guy I finally got to do it. New Holland gave be a quote that included a $150 document fee, but was a whole $350 higher than what I finally hired a guy to do it for. The guy who is hauling it told me he has 10 years experience and was telling me his route. Does that mean he knows what he says he does? I don"t know. He seemed honest. I will know Tuesday evening. I guess my point is, short of hiring an actual hauling/towing oufit, and spending HUGE $$ (which I have done in the past), you can gamble you can find someone that is honest. I suppose you get what you pay for. I have gotten tractors taken from my place in Western KY to northern Iowa for $200, and the guy was hired from this board. He was just a guy headed that way, and the $200 paid for part of the gas (I should mention that he was hauling a CUB so it wasn"t that bad weight-wise)... As with so much in life you just step out on faith. I know that have a seller feedback forum. I would be nice if there was a hauler feedback forum too.

Hope that goes well! I am thinking my seller can check the guy out 'cause he does some hauling himself and has been around the forums a while. I have heard also it is a good idea to maybe have the seller catch a pic or two of the truck and it's plates. I will check the ID# recommended below BUT I have known guys with MD licenses who were utter scum so...any other tips from anyone are appreciated. Good luck with your new tractor!

I guess my long-winded response kind of missed the point (as I re-read it). First, it depends on what you needed moved. Two, how much money do you have to spend? I almost always recommend having it hauled by a hauling company, as I know many people who have regretted shelling out big bucks replacing parts damaged by trying saving a buck or two. My point is, no offense to anyone on the hauling board, but licensed, insured/bonded professionals have my vote as being the best way to go. Some do post to the hauling board.

I have hauled things for people one here and had great results. It helped me recoupe gas costs for a trip I was already making and helps them out also. I had a few things hauled for me with no problems either and everyone I met seemed like good people!. I did haul an engine for a guy last spring and lost his number and email since my old computer fried. His stuff is still sitting here at my house. If any one knows a guy who goes by "Old Fart" from Minnesota have him get hold of me.

I have no complaints what so ever. Used it twice to arrange hauling and both times everything was exactly as promised.
