im sure some of you get the aths wheels of time magazine , in the mailbox section it has a story about hauling on us 10, about 60 miles out of valley city nd, the time period is the 1950's and the driver is in the company shop complaining about his truck's distinct lack of power on the hills in the area, the truck was a 85 hp flathead ford, he claimed he just got passed by a international, "so" the mechanic shot back, the driver retorted, the ih doing the passing was a farmall H farm tractor,

Eric: I passed late 70s Ford highway tractor and trailer once with Farmall 1066. It was an old two lane highway with a long passing lane on the up grade. I could see he was loaded heavy, I was pulling about 6 ton behind 1066. He had passed me as he approached the hill, however soon lost his speed. I don't think 1066 lost 50 rpm, and about half way up the hill I passed him. As I did he gave a thumbs down to his power plant, and was also on his CB. I expect someone was getting an earfull, "damn farm tractor passing me".

I never did talk with him, however I do know the company he was driving for, were famous for little more than 200hp in highway tractors pulling trailers in hill country.
