Checking Tire Pressure

Hi Tractor Friends, when checking tire pressure in salt loaded tires does it matter which position the valve stem is in?

The stem should be at 12:00 to be less likely to get fluid in the gauge. Rincing the gauge, and drying it after is also recommended. There are special gauges that are made for Calcium Cloride checking. JimN

If you check the air pressure with the stem down the pressure reading will include both the amount of air pressure plus the pressure exerted by the weight of the fluid. You will get a different reading at six o'clock compared to twelve o'clock. This is why a tire with fluid runs with a lower pressure than one without fluid.

To determine what is right for your tractor, park on a hard surface with a bar at six o'clock. The outer end of the bar should be about 1/4 inch off the surface.

Nope, not in my world.

I stand about 10 feet away and just look at 'em. You can tell if they are low or not.
