I am new to International tractors so this might be a foolish question. I have a chance to buy a International Cub Lo Boy tractor. I think it is a late 50"s tractor. Can a undermount finish lawn mower be attached to this tractor ? If so where or who makes it?
Why was this tractor made?

Yes you can add a belly mower to any cub. I have a cub with an IH 59 inch belly mower. I think you could put a woods mower on it also but im not sure. I really like my Cub it purs like a kitten.

woods belly mowers were real popular on the low boys. 59 inch was pretty common. the cubs and low boys were a little shy on power, but as long as the grass didnt get to long they cut real nice. check e bay or put a wanted add up in the classifieds on the top left of this site. here is a link to a woods 59 i just found on e bay. it will fith the a, sa and 140. but it will give you an idea what yu are looking for

Yes, a belly mount mower can be used. Many differant manufacturers made belly mount mowers for the Cub and Lowboy tractors. IH, Danco, Woods, Sunflower and Bush Hog to name a few. The actual model mower of the paticular brands will depend on if you have a fasthitch or not. There are also rearmount mowers for the Cub tractors.
As to the purpose of the Lowboys, they were made mainly for mowing and utility work. All kinds of attachments can be found for them. Front end loaders, dirt and land plows, and both blade mowers and sickle bar mowers.

Yes you can add a finish mower on a cub. I favor the IH 59 inch over the woods. I find that the woods mowers tend to turn a little harder than the IH, but that is only my personal findings. You go with what you want, but I will tell you that I used to mow over 25 acres of yard (for different people, about 8 yards) and had no problems with a cub-loboy and an IH 59 inch. Run you about a 6-8 inch dia pulley and you should have enough power. If you are really lagging for power, then go to a 4 inch pulley. I had 2 different pulleys, one for heavy stuff and one for yards. Had to change the belt when changing pulleys, but it didn't take long to change and made a BIG difference in power. When you decrease pulley size though, you also decrease blade tip speed and sacrafice quality and smoothness of cut. I usually used the small pulley to knock down high stuff and then go over it again with the big pulley and make it look like a golf course. Also keep in mind that the sharper you keep your mower blades, the better that 59 inch will cut and the less power it will take to run it. Good luck with your cub and have fun with it. They are fabulous little tractors and it will amaze you with what it can do. Kippster
