New Farmall A Owner

Greetings to all.
I am a four-year owner of a Ford 8N 1952.
I just purchased a 1941 Farmall A, serial F.A.A. 77497. The tin is all pretty darn straight and I think about everything on it is original. I'm excited about working on it as I have time. It runs well, doesn't seem to smoke and starts right up. I don't think it has been run much at all for several years. I plan to change the basic fluids and grease the zircs.
I would appreciate, 1. any general advice on what to do as starters for fluids, etc.
2. the Zenith carb leaks when the engine is stopped. May not leak while running...I'm not sure yet, perhaps because the fuel is being channeled into the manifold. I'm guessing a stuck float or perhaps a hole in the float.
So, please accept me as a new member of this board and fire away with any and all advice!!
Thanks,
Tom in Iowa City

Tom pretty much all that holds true to your 8N holds true to any tractor. Basics are the same. Fluids are like the UTF or 80W-90 or 80W-140 for the rear end and tranny. Engine the same as you run in your 8N

Be sure to keep the fuel shut-off valve closed when not in use. You don't want to fill the cylinders and crankcase with gasoline when engine is not running! I have a 1947 A.

Welcome Tom, glad your here. Red will become an addiction if it hasn't already.

You Might want to start with a Manual for it, I get mine from binderbooks dot com they are real good ones.

As for the carb leaking seems like if it didn't there would be worse problems, LOL .
but a carb kit is a good place to start. with of course a through cleaning and some fine wire to run though the tiny holes in it. Good luck and welcome aboard.

Thanks for the kind comments and advice, everyone.
I have the I & T IH-8 manual and the Farmall A,AV, B, BN, International A Tractors and U-2 Power Units service manual. I plan to get the A and B parts manual.

Get the "Operators Manual". That is the most important one as far as basic maintenance and care. mike

See if you can find some numbers on that Zenith carb and we can fix you right up with the correct overhaul kit and new float if needed.
