does any one have any info on how pump is driven off the engine my hydraulics just stoped working today.Any pictures , page from manual etc would help all ideas and input is appreciated.

Thanks

Bill,
If the temp is below freezing may have ice in valve if fluid is old and has condensation in it.
Hydraulic pump on my 450 is driven of of distributor, sorry but i dont know much about your tractor just throwing in what i know from past experience.Request a reply from Hugh Mackay
Janicholson,or OLD they are very knowledgable and have helped me tremendously.

Hi Bill, If it is a Diesel engine the hydraulic pump is at front right of engine, IIRC it is driven by cam gear. If you have power steering there will be two hydraulic pumps, second one is stacked behind the first one.
Go to CaseIH parts at:
http://www1.caseih.com/northamerica/PartsService/Pages/search.aspx then search for 434 page 5-14 shows hydraulic pump and plumbing.
Is it cold where you live? Since it stopped working all of a sudden, I would suspect ice somewhere. When we had a 434 with a 1501 loader and it was -30F sometimes the hydraulic controls for the loader would freeze and stop working.

Kevin: I notice Jim has stepped in, those British tractors are a different animal from a Farmall. I would suspect frozen condensation, but am curious to see this play out.

Thanks It is cold here but it was only about -5c today but it has been -30 to -40 for the last week or so .Again thanks for the link it sure helps

Used to test hydraulic systems in a "cold room" environment where I worked (Engineering Experimental)and hydraulic fluid can become pretty thick even at -5 and if the weather has been colder, all that iron may still be colder than -5. Sometimes the engine heat had to warm things up before the fluid would move. I suspect you have run it long enough for that, but for others having problems, it can get pretty bad if the fluid is old with condensation, or the viscosity changes over time.

IH fan: Correction, moisture will never be a factor on tractors that clock 1,000 or more hours per year. A lot of that will be 16 hour days, and heat evaporates the moisture. I know as I used to run tractors 24-7 during the busy season. Big thing then was changing filters to eliminate dirt or metal.

Can have one of three different pumps including a dual pump used with power steering. All mount to the front of the engine and get driven by the timing-gears in front. Drive gear on the pump is held by a simple woodruff key, that's all.

Here are some photos of a 434 sitting behind my shop right now. As far as I've seen, all the BD144 and BD154 engines use the same pump mounting.
