436 Fuel consumption

Hello,

Got a 1466 on the farm that latley all it does is run the TMR mixer for the dairy. This feed mixer would give a 75 hp tractor a work out on the pto. The 1466 handles the mixer fine with the exception that it likes the fuel An hour each day running at half throttle adds up quick. We need a big tractor hooked to it due to its size/weight and visibality issues. My question is there any way to turn the fuel back on the 14 to save some money on fuel. I know 75 hp is 75 hp no matter what you have hooked to it. But would like to find a cheaper way.

Yes the pump can be turned down.

How far without doing damage I do not know?

They are very simple to turn down if you want to know how?

Should have mentioned it will probably not help a whole lot to turn it down if you are not pulling it hard anyway.

Turning it down may just limit the top end HP without saving much on the low end.

Does it burn more than 6 gallon an hour? If so it may have been turned up before you got it and turning it back down to factory HP may help.

That's what I was wondering about If its not at full hp will turning it down help?

Like I said 75 hp is 75hp.

No its not burning that much fuel more like 4 gallon/hour

Yep that 4 gallon is about right for what you are doing.

Don't think you can get anymore economy out of it.

First off there is alot that comes into play here , What is the 1466 putting out now for Hp. i'll bet ya a dollar to a donut that she is NOT at factory spec's . Are the injectors in good shape ??? is the pump timing dead on or + a couple degrees???? is the turbo putting out the correct amount of boost ???? is the air filter clean ??? A 1466 is just a wee bit large for a chore tractor and yes i know it is what ya have to work with . If ya could afford a 806 thru a 966 they may be a better chose . A newer tractor that has a 5.9 cumming would do better on fuel . As for turning down the wick on the 14 i do not think that you would gain anything as the mixer wagon is not really loading that tractor to the point that she is going into full fuel mode . Where as a 75 horse tractor is working hard on this job and i am aware of what a mixer wagon takes to do the job . My one good friend has the same thing and is running his with a OIL ALL OVER that this past summer we installed a BT3.9 cumming into it out of a bread truck and it is doing a fine job, now as to what the Hp. of that engine is i can not honestly tell ya maybe around 110-120 as she does have some smoke to her., but i do know that it is doing alot better then the 706 291 gasser did .

Four gallons an hour producing 75 horsepower would be 18.75 horsepower hours per gallon. Don't believe you can improve on that. Thats just my opinion. Joe
