SMTA Rear end swap?

Previous owner trashed the rear end in my SMTA. I've been looking for a replacement...not much luck for a Z code rearend. My CIH parts man and shop foreman are fairly certain that the SMTA rear end will swap out with the 400's and 450's. Anyone have any knowledge of such a swap?

when i redid one of my super mta's the rearend case had been repaired with a big ugly patch where the ball went through, i had a 450 rear end so i used that casting. they are the same.

I have a rear end housing from a 400 sitting in the barn. I am in northern WI.. Am I to far away for you to want to make a deal.? I don't want to give it away, but a fair offer will not be refused.

Steve, Thanks for the reply. I live in SE Iowa so we're approx. 10 to 12 hours apart. Transportation would be costly. I'll keep you in mind. Do you have the just the casing or the complete rearend...gears and all? I'm looking for the complete unit.Marv 319 835 5685

I have removed the PTO and both axles. The T/A housing is still attached and the bull gears are still in the center housing. I have removed the battery box because it was very nasty and the seat was not very good either. This tractor did not have the Hydraulic system on it. The transmission is complete. One axle is ok but I swapped the other one to a different tractor. It would need a new set of bearings and the outer axle seals, if you were to reassemble it. I paid $400 for it.
