Front axel on 806

Trying to find a way to fix the front axel on my 806. It is a IH front end but the center pin, the one that goes thru the axel that it piviots on, the hole in the axel is wore out. I called a CIH dealer and thought there might be a bushing but he said there is none and would have to replace the axel. Has anyone ran into this and how without buying a new one can I fix this one?

A machine shop can bore the old boss out. And either press a new sleeve in, or they can cut the old hole out, and weld in a new piece. Like taking a heavy pipe and welding in the size of the new pin so they are tight to tolerence. A grease fitting will have to be drilled and tapped to be able to grease it.

I have fixed several and it is not that big of a deal to do . Ya just cut out the old and have a new piece made up and when ya are cutting out the old one it is most critical that you do not over cut and inlarge the org. hole in the tube . once ya have the old bushing or tune cut out chamfer out around at about a 45 degree angle and weld in the new tube with good penetration weld , myself i run 7018 for rod . It is wise to order in a new axle pin so that the machine shop can fit it . The pin is where the grease fitting is so there is no need to try and install a fitting in the bushing. a bushing with about a 1/4 inch wall will be enough .

I've fixed two of these with a new tube through the center of the axle. It is not a standard size so the ends have to machined out for the bushings. Which is better than the factory because the bushings cannot slide to the center when you put the pin in. On one the wide front was off and the guy at the shop cut the old one out and welded the new one in. The other one was under the tractor when I put it in. I jacked up the tractor and took the pin out and jacked it up high enough to cut the old tube out. Then I set the new tube in and let the tractor down enough to line it up and put the pin in. Then I tack welded the tube to the axle when I thought it was lined up right. I jacked it back up and welded it good. I had a hydraulic jack and splitting stands under the tractor when I was working on it and still tried to keep from getting clear under it. Lee

Forgot to say there are bushings on each end of this pin and I've always gotten them at Case IH, and the guy the machine shop had already machined for this size bushing, but it might be cheaper to have it machined for a standard size bushing as I remember the factory ones are kind of spendy. Lee
