alternator for H

The forum suggests a 10SI one wire alternator for converting an H. What for vehicle does this fit? I called ADVANCE AUTO and they don"t list or have one wire alternators and don"t know what the 10SI fits. Any help would be appreciated.

One wire alts are ok but I would use a normal delco 3 wire off any gm product, they charge better and dont drain the battery, I use one wires when the tractor has a mag, if your parts place dont know a one wire delco, go some were else like carquest, good luck.
 

Wow. You've got some real talent behind the counter there...

The Delco 10SI is probably the most common alternator on the planet. Fits pretty much most any GM vehicle made in the 1970's and 1980's, and I know that Advance carries 1-wire versions... We got to talking about converting tractors and 1-wire alternators, so the parts guy walked back into the stockroom and came out with a nice chromed up 1-wire Delco 10SI. He said they had a plain one too.
 
The Delco 10SI is probably the most common alternator on the planet! Do not feel bad, I have problems at parts houses like Auto-Zone and O'Rileys all the time on stuff like that. If you cannot tell them the year, make, model, engine, ect they are LOST.

I have a 10SI on my Farmall 504. I think it is a toss up on a 1-wire vs 3-wire... I have never had discharge problems with a 10SI. If it is discharging then there is a leaking diode or VR issue. On a 10SI though you have to bump the RPMS up pretty good after starting to make the alternator kick into charge mode sometimes. After that it is good all day. I noticed that one night with the lights on.

That Delco alternator is going to be a very tight fit and keep it under the hood. There is one that fits much better, standard equipment on Japanese imports, but I can't think of the name.
