i just replaced the big clutche and the ta clutche pack and adjusted by the book can anybody give me some info. about the trans problem i am having with out the ta clutche ingaged the tractor sounds like it is slipping it makes wining noise you can feel the clutche ingagebut will not pull is this normal i dont think so buti am afraid that i am going to have to pull the cover on trans.

I think the problem is that the TA ramp and roller one way clutch is no good. The full repair of a TA is to split the tractor in two places. At the bell housing, and at the front of the trans. THe One way clutch I refer to is on the trans end of the TA. It is one of the issues needing attention when doing a repair. If it slips in LOW (TA back) that is the most likely. IF itslips in direct also, the TA internal gears may be toast. Kevin Meier participates on this forum, and sells TA materialsand rebuilt TAs. THe Blue Ribbon Manual for the TA repair is a good thing. Some like the Video available on this site. JimN

that is the part that slips in the front of the trans see i pulled off the cover of the trans above that areaand started it up put tractor in gear and found it spinning and the rest of trans was not moving i apreciate the info.

Dad's IH mechanic friend told him that you should only be able to turn the TA by hand in one direction with the TA clutch disengaged. It should roll freely one way, but lock up in the other. If it turns both ways, it's no good. Ramp and rollers are shot.

As an aside, the results of not having the linkages adjusted properly is a burned out TA clutch, and then the "high side" is out.
