Just because you might not recognize my name on this board doesn't mean i am new here.
I joined this board many years ago & interject a comment whenever I think it will be helpful.
Other wise I keep my mouth & keyboard shut!
I do not try to be a smart aleck in my comments as that is childish & I haven't been a child for some time now.
The combined knowledge on this board, for example, Hugh Mckay, is too abundant to be ignored.
It seems to me that some people think that they need to say something even if it isn't relevant to the previous message. I will never understand that kind of attitude.
Oh well, keep the good info. coming.

When you deal with the general public, you get it all, the good, the bad and the ugly. The only other option is to be a hermit and isolate yourself from the world. I plan to do just that tomorrow. I am tired of the over the top news coverage of Obamma. I am gonna try to turn off all news channels. I may listen to CD's all day, or go cut wood or set by the fire down at the hunting cabin and read.

You get what you pay for unfortunately.

Vern, I certainly hope that you aren't lumping me in with the "offenders" and if you are, I humbly apologize for whatever transgression may have transgressed.

Vern, I was the first to respond to your post. I saw your number of posts and your signup date, I figured you have been around the red iron before. But when some one post a question like you did, it triggers the type responses you recieved. It seemed you were too lazy to even try to figure out what wrench would fit. It sounded like the post we all see where someone buys a tractor, has no manuals, wants to borrow your manuals, and cannot figure out how to check the oil...

Now we have that out of the way, there are two options for the tight clearance. If you have more than one wrench in the given sizes needed, you can grind one down in thickness to fit. The second option is to bite the bullet and spend some cash on a set of "service wrenchs" or "pump wrenchs". The are a little shorter, thinner, and wider than standard wrenches. They are used for applications like changing the fan belt on a SA.

Hang in there Vern, and do not take it personally. Hope you get the belt changed out.

Vern: Just looked at my initial responce to your first thread, and by gosh, I answered you telling exactly what you asked, then offered my further assistance should it be needed.

I just assumed you were some old codger as forgetful as I, and wanted to be sure you had the right tools at hand, on a job you'd probably done before. You didn't express any need for advice on how to perform this task, thus I saw no reason to give advice. Then Mr. K decided no one had answered your question. Don't fault him for that, he thinks we're all not as bright as we might be.

Hugh, I don't know where you get that. Just because I suggest something that 15 other people haven't already suggested, does not mean that I'm making any assumptions about anything.

I make my living solving problems. I'm paid reasonably well to think "out of the box," and I'm quite good at it if you ask my peers.

You're all about giving them the obvious answer. If anything YOU are making assumptions about the intelligence of the poster.

My line of thinking is, "What if they have already tried the obvious?" I assume they're intelligent enough to have tried the obvious, and suggest not-so-obvious possibilities. What is wrong with that?
