Price of non running LP Super M and LP 450

Went to an auction today and watched a non running LP Super M with p/s, duals, live hydraulics and 3 point sell for nearly 2000. Tires were shot as well. Does this seem out rageous? the 450 sitting next to it was in similar shape w/ p/s, duals, screw out rims and fast hitch sold for almost 4000. Earlier in the sale a good running (almost perfect shape w/ cab) 4010 LP sold for a mear 3500 ish. This would be the first sale I see a a farmall out sell a 40 series JD.

Interesting.
The trend, if it is an indicator, is good/bad. It could be more expensive to buy our favorite color. More JD may be available. A leveling of the field. In reality it is probably neither. My guess is: a local peak in price, or pique between rivals. Did you revisit the bent loader posting made a few days ago. More info there. JimN

Where are you from? Where I am a non running SM any fuel is worth more than $1000 with no options. Was it Stage I or II? OK a 3 pt. 500 plus, power steering Char-lynn 500, live pump 300. Have you tried to buy a true 450 LP head? I am a Deere guy but the 4010 LP has not the collector or puller demand of either of the IH.

I'm in nebraska. The way I figure it here 500 for any no running tractor of that vintage. This Holds pretty true. Behlen p/s adds1-300. 3pt adds 0 to 300 ish. The basket case of it knocks it down in price and the sheet metal was messed up so that knocks it. The LP may or may not add anything. Depends on who is there. I don't think it's a true stage 2 as it still had an apparently still working belly pump. I've seen good running super m's with new paint sell for 2000. The guys that bought these were not pullers either. They were bought to become working tractors again.

You are right that the 4010 has not pulling value but it is still a very capable tractor for just about anything you need to do on a farm. Especially hay/feeding operations. Grandpa has one just like it and quit farming 15 years ago. It was his only field tractor. I've seen good 4010's bring nearly 10000.

The 450 LP has a starting price in the 1500-2000 range if it has the real LP head. If it was in overall good shape, that is probably getting realistic.
Now, the thing is there aren't that many people that want LP tractors. Mainly because of having to call someone to bring fuel out or having to haul a nurse tank in.
My uncle had a 4020 LP tricycle front with a loader. I know, people will say thats a terrible combination, but it started easy in the cold for feeding cattle. He could set the bale down, swing over and fork the hay ring and set it back on top. Plus he had the heater blankets on it.
I always thought that I would like to do that with a 656 or so for winter feeding.

That's a Stage 2 Super M, which are becoming more popular, if it is factory LP there weren't a whole lot made. I wouldn't pay that for it, but as a collector tractor, the price doesn't have to make sense. The 450 price sounds high, but at some auctions, you have two people wanting the same tractor at any cost and that is what happens. The 4010 may have sold to someone who actually wants to use it, usual price for those is $7500-$10000, must need quite a bit of repairs.

Actually the 4010 looked and sounded really nice. The son of the owner of the property said it was the best running tractor out of all of them. I think there were a lot of IH people there. That was about the only green thing there!

Like 4 something. I think a guy said 4800!!! Seemed a little high too. I think this was about the only auction for a few hundred miles either way. Lots of people there.

tcanthonyii, Depends on where you are! Here in Central Texas Non Non running Ms, SMs, 400/450s can still be bought for for waaaaay less than 2 Big Bills. More like $1000. If it is stuck,,,,$500 + or - a little. I have 2 Super Ms LPs, 1-Stage I, stuck, 10% rubber, tin work rates 90%, single cotton front...$300. The other A Stage II, a runner, 20% rubber, regular narrow front, Live Hydrolics, + factory bedders, tin work rates 95%....$400.
Up north LP is still a Novelty, NOT RARE at all, down here still quite common! IMO,,,,,The SM is + - a little... $1000 toooooo high. The 450 is at least $1000 to $1500 toooooo high. A non running tractor is only worth SLIGHTLY more than a stuck tractor.
The JD 4020 LP is the only tractor that sold about right, considering age wear and tear, tires Etc, Etc, Etc! Hope this helps!
Later,
John A.
