1964 or so Farmall 140 I think; serial number question

The plate has a clear serial number of 236467 but no other information is readable. Numbers on the engine: L3 251341 R8. I can not find any six digit serial number sequences for a mid sixties 140. Is it even a 140? I will post pictures asap thanks

rakeon: Only tractors before 1955 ever got over the 200,000, in fact I doubt if anything after 1955 ever reached 100,000. That part number doesn't sound right either. What are the casting date codes?

As Hugh said there are too many digits. Drop the last digit off the serial and it becomes a 1963 -- are you sure that is a 7 and not a letter? An L, alone, cast into the block means it was cast at Louisville where all 140's were built, I don't know what L3 is.

Charles: I thought about what your saying and if you take away the 7. All 140s had Rockford clutch, thus the 3, 4 or 5 digit serial number was followed by J. I suppose it's possible after all these years J could get mistaken for a 7, given the possibility of mechanical damage, etc.

The serial number as I have identified it is correct. The engine numbers are all correct as I have identified them, the L3 being above and to the left of the other numbers which are in a horizontal row with a space between the 251341 and the R8. Original color may have been yellow, total width of outside of rear tires 48". Im trying to post pictures

Thanks to your pictures we can assure you it is a Farmall Cub.

No question, it is a Farmall Cub, 140 would be much heavier all over. I tend to forget about the Cub, it would be the one tractor retaining it's sequence of serial numners all the way back to 1947. I expect the year Jim quoted you is correct.

Nice looking Cub, have fun with it.
