O/T Suzuki Changing issue.

Thought I would post a follow-up to my question the other night on my 99 Suzuki Esteem. As I mentioned in my post, I replaced the battery, few days later went out with the volt meter, still reading 12.4 volts. Took it to autozone "like" place, their machine couldn"t even give me a reading on the output of the alternator. So...off to the mechanic, and a new one installed. I"m a little upset with myself for purchasing a new battery when I guess I didn"t have too. My first thoughts that it WAS the alt. not the battery were correct (from learning on this site!!). As BOB said, always trust the voltage meter. My only relief is that on - 30"C days my little lady is driving a car with a fresh battery and a proper working system.

Thanks for all your help.

Brian.

Brian - Look at it this way:

1 - If the battery you replaced was more than about 3 - 4 years old it didn't owe you much...

2 -You needn't be concerned about battery/alternator issues for the next several years.

3 - Your wife once again has reliable vehicle. (For me that'd worth a lot more than the price of a battery!)

A friend has a SMTA. He tried to start it, without pushing in the clutch. Nothing happened. He replaced the battery. The problem was that the rear end had frozen water in it. He still feels the same that you do. Unhappy about spending the money, but happy to not have to worry about the battery.

I couldn't get my Mom's riding mower to start. Replaced the battery, still wouldn't start. Took the mower deck out of gear, it started. Didn't tell anybody at home.
