Interesting Oil Leak I Found on My F504D...

I checked my oil the other day before start up and was about 3 qts low. Got to looking and found nothing unusual, weeping valve cover, weeping oil pan, ect... Projects for another day before painting. I put in 3 qts of Castrol Tection HD and went to "root raking".

I came back to the shop to replace a broken brake spring (got 3 off a parts tractor, have you priced an IH spring?). I noticed an oil slick on the ground. Investigation led to the oil pan. I thought, "dang, pan gasket"... Would ya believe all the bolts were loose??? Every one of them. So out came the torque wrench and I got them all tight. Cleaned the pan and removed the flywheel cover. Actually I thought the rear main was going out. Ran it out for a few hours, not a drop from the pan or rear main.

I think one of ya sabatoged my 504  Anyone ever have this happen?

Not sure if this is relevant, but I have an early 706D that the oilpan bolts will work loose on. When I bought it, they were finger-loose and there was oil running down the sides of the pan. Now I just snug them up every oil change, but they're never loose enough to leak. I think the vibration of the diesel engine has some thing to do with it. I should torque them, but a 3/8" bolt will only handle so much.

i had it happen on a truck, i did have a spark plug shoot out and put a big dent in the hood of one of my cub cadets before, i just tightend it to it was a brand new plug. had to replace the head it stripped all the threads out of it. luckaly i had a spare one.
