+ or - ground on model m ?

These are positive ground are they not? Just got a 45 or 46 with a mag for my next project, and wanted to be sure before I hooked up a battery. Was going to use a 12 volt to roll it over to start it.This won't hurt the mag., but it still has the generator on it which probably doesn't charge anyway. Will I create any problems leaving the battery hooked up (12volt) with it running with the 6 volt generator? Thanks, Jim .

The M was positive ground from the factory. The polarity of yours now 60+ years later however is anybody's guess.

The good news is it doesn't make any difference whether you connect the 12 volt battery + or - ground. The starter will spin the correct direction either way. And since the mag is isolated from the rest of the electric system it could care less which way the battery is grounded!

However for safety of the generator, cutout (or regulator...) and wiring, disconnect and tape the end of the wire that connects to the cutout (or regulator) "BAT" terminal before you fire it up.

Thanks for the quick replys. Wasn't sure if the battery would spin backwards or not,and I may disconnect the wire to the reg. just in case . Jim

For the safety of people trying to jump-start the tractor in the future it is best to wire it up negative-ground, since that is what they will assume that it is.
