installing a loader on an H

I just bought a loader for my 1949 H. It came off another H, so, I know it will fit. Here's my question, the loader has 4 pistons, 2 for lift & 2 for articulating the bucket. My H has hydraulic hook-ups under the gas tank & also 2 hydraulic lines that are run to the rear (over the PTO sheild, behind the toolbox). What's the best way to use what I have most effectively? i.e. how do I hook up my hydraulic lines? <a href="http://s464.photobucket.com/albums/rr4/kennebunksawmill/?action=view&current=FarmallH020.jpg" target="_blank">

Your H (probably) has a Liftall Belly pump non live hydraulic system.
If it has a pump on the engine between the front cover and the ignition system, it is a live hydraulic system.
Either way it is an open center system, meaning that the fluid is under no pressure when the lever/s are centered, and the oil goes through the valves back to the reservoir, freely.

The picture (for a live hydro system and Belly pump used as reservoir) shows the relationship for the bucket tipping 2 way cylinder, or cylinders Paralleled with a T at the cylinders.
The lift cylinders will be using a one way valve, not 2 way. All return lines should go to the drain T shown in the pic.
If it is a belly pump, the pressure line will come from the right side pressure port to go to the loader valves (the belly pump's controll rod will beed to be pulled back and held with a wire or other better looking method) to keep the pump output going to the valves at all times) and it will have its return go into the belly pump reservoir.
We need a picture of the other side to be sure of the nature of the beast as it is now, and we also need to see the valves now on the loader. I hope this helps. JimN

Do you have a live hyd. pump mounted ahead of the dist. or do you have the old belley pump in the torque tube behind the clutch? At the very least you will need at least a two valve body set for 2 way operation(power up and down) dedicated to the loader boom and bucket. A three valve set would be better because that would give you a spare valve for a extra remote without unhooking the bucket cyl. We need to know how your tractor is set up now. Do you have access to the tractor the loader came from. That would give you some ideas how to hook it to your tractor. Feel free to ask more questions. Armand

ken, you don't have enough to hook up the loader. You'll need to buy some parts.

The loader has two functions, and that requires two remote valves. I'm going to describe what you need assuming a stock H with belly pump, because your description of what you have is kind of vague.

Simplest thing to do is get a dual remote hydraulic valve, which has two valves built into one unit. It must be an open center type valve. Also give preference to valves with NPT (standard pipe threaded) holes, so you can make the hookups with as few adapters and fittings as possible.

Mount the valve in a convenient location near you on the platform so you can operate the valves.

You'll need to run a hose from either the front hydraulic port on the left side, or the single port on the right side to the IN port on the valve. Run a second hose from the OUT back to the hydraulic fill pipe under the gas tank. You can Tee it in so as to allow for adding oil, but you must now use a solid cap instead of the regular ventilated cap. Place both the cap and dipstick somewhere safe so you can put it back if you take the loader off. A regular 3/4" pipe cap from the hardware store is fine.

Now you can hook the two bucket cylinders to one of the valves, and the two lift cylinders to the other valve.

You must lock the control rod for the belly pump back to make it work, and your foot must be off the clutch pedal.

you will need a double spool, open center hydrqulic valve. I took mine at dupont for about 300 $ with all the o-ring boss fittings. cute little valve, better than the old big cast ones.

good luck with your project

Thanks for all the info. I did not see the tractor this came off of. I do have everything (including controls & all hoses), the person I bought it from came today & explained to me how to hook it up. I'll post a picture when I get it all working proper. Thanks again.
