Farmall M Carb Identification

I have a 46 Farmall M that I need a rebuild kit for and I see there are many different models that this site sells kits for. How do I know which one to get? I tried finding an id, but cannot. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Look for a small, round brass tag a bit smaller than a dime riveted near the top of the carb body. The carb p/n will be stamped into this tag.

Frequently the tag is hidden under many years' accumulation of carb gum and dirt. Some quality time on the carb exterior with spray carb cleaner and a stiff brush should reveal the tag.

As a practical matter all M's use "E12" carb family. Different carb part numbers differ only internally, primarily only in jet sizes and venturi diameters. My experience has been any "basic" M carb repair kit will work.

I agree with Bob M. I will add that visual difference between the distillate/kerosene and gasoline carbs is that the dist/kero carbs have a wing nut type drain plug for draining the distillate out before starting on gas (I suppose), the gas ones just have a plug. Either way, yours could have been changed.
