IH660D Hydraulic fluid level and axle seal

Having a senior moment. The appropriate level for the hydraulic fluid is checked by removing the plug on the left side where the power steering bracket attaches to the side of the tractor, right? Anyone have a schematic of the left axle? The inside of my rear rim is coated with oil, assuming why I need to add more... apparently a seal is bad. If someone has a picture, that would be a big help...I can"t find my manual either! Ha, what a day.

Ok, that's what I thought. Any ideas on the left axle seal. It's going to be a bear to pull that whole wheel and tire off to find the problem, but I guess I have to do it to figure it out. Let me know if you have any diagrams.

Do you know any part numbers for the seals on the left axle? It appears to be leaking from where the shaft comes out and the wheel attaches but it's still hard to tell since I don't have the wheel off yet. The ring and gasket that attaches to the axle housing is good, so it has to be the shaft seal, I guess...

You have to pull the planetary off to put in the seal, it is a real job, when we did ours the seal was no availble from IH, I got one from Carquest off the old seal number, good luck

Wow, OK, thanks. Do you remember any of the part number info.? I hope I find my book. Lot of work for a $3 part!!

The on-line parts book should have an exploded detail of all the parts. Sorry, I don't have that link. Someone else will probably post it.

It's not that hard to remove the wheel, tire, and rim if you have a forklift or a tractor with loader. I took this tractor apart because I wanted to put one of the wheel weights on the inside. There is only room for one. I also had to repair a flat.

go to www.caseih.com and then the two search for parts screen. then put in 660
