Farmall H Clutch Noise

Down to the final stages of my H project. Took a test drive and the clutch is making noise, maybe against the throw out bearing? The 3 arms out of adjustment?

Here is a video of what I am hearing, I need a web diagnostic :D

H Clutch Video

Need lights and electrical, decals, then I am done with this first project.
More pics here

A big thanks goes to all the folks that helped answer my questions on this H project. I am excited to start on the next one, since that one will involve an engine rebuild.

looking at the video, it looks like the output shaft is wobbling a little. maybe pilot bearing, or shaft bent a little? did you check the finger height adjustments?
if you cant get it fixed, i still got that hundred dollars in small unmarked bills in an envelope, i can slide that to ya and take that h off your hands for ya!!!! lol........glenn

Just looking at the video it looks like your fingers aren't adjusted equally or else your throwout bearing has failed in some unusual manner.

I have to say that is an incredible looking tractor! Maybe someday I'll manage to turn out something that looks so nice.

I'd have to disagree with Glenn though, that'd go for at least $150 in my neck of the woods ;)

Sam

Randy,
Not on your question, but you did a great job on that tractor. That really looks sharp. Want to do one of mine next? lol
Jim

Maybe shut it down, block the clutch down and see if you can shake the forward end of that shaft. It sure looks like it is shaking the shaft and bearing around as soon as it's engaging.

I agree. That output shaft is misaligned, actually looks bent.
I assume you kept a detailed expense ledger during this project as I do on mine. Wanna bet who's is higher? The bet being the difference? Oh Yeah, winner is the high dollar tractor:) But i have over 1100 in engine rebuild. The 400 dollar head w/o valves was the killer.
Beautiful job. Noted the all new hardware on the wheels. That wasn't cheap.
You might want to get those steering wheel spokes. CP item.

Well maybe I should pull that shaft out and check it, the pilot bearing is new.
Sam made me a better offer

Randy

Gordo, I quit keeping track of how much I spent on this H once I bought the rear end bearings, tires & paint

All that little stuff like gaskets, seals, gauges, seats, thermostat, rebuilt starter & generator, transmission oil (ouch), all adds up, so I didn't add it up :p

Randy

It doesn't start shaking until the throwout bearing starts to come in contact with the fingers on the pressure plate. It's pretty easy to check and adjust those. Probably take you less time than it did to set up, shoot, edit, and post that video :)

I would expect you have already checked this, but it almost looks like the flex joint at the rear of the drive shaft is loose the way that shaft whips. I have seen the steel joint ring crack which causes flexing in that area, resulting in shaft runout and vibration. Just a thought.

Watching your video, it looks like the fork holding the release bearing is twisted. If I'm not looking at it wrong, as your pushing the pedal watch the 2 prongs on the side of the bearing, the one on the rightis closer to the top of the picture than the one on the left. Let me know what you think.

Well, I adjusted the arms with my dial indicator so they are al the same last nite. It seems better but it starts to wobble only in certain areas after releasing the clutch, If I press and release quickly it goes away.
