my 240u has a cat 2 fasthitch, but the attachments i have are cat 1. a while back there was a post with a steel flat stock that slid in with the prongs to use the 1 implements on the 2 hitch, but i cant seem to find it. if i remember there was a lenght of flat stock that slid in with the prongs. anybody know the dimensions. seems like maybe 1/2 inch by maybe 1 inch flat a foot long or so??

While we are on this subject was there a cat. 3 also.

Seemed to me the 806 had a beefier one yet.

Anyone know for sure?

Gary

from what i can tell, the c thru 240 had the cat 1, the 300 and up had the cat 2. but , my 240 u has the cat 2. oh well.

I had a set of factory ones layen around and for the life of me i do not remember how thick they were . I bought them way back when i bought a fast hitch blade for my old 450D as i thought that it had the small prongs . They sure did look smaller then the prongs that were on the plow . When we went to put the blade on we put the plates in and backed into the blade and being young and dumb my buddy and i could not figure out why the blade would not go all the way in and latch . Now being young and dumb is bad enough but added in the stupid makes it even worse . Well we thought that well the prongs are really rusty and the plates had paint on them this is why it will not just slide in and if we just took and backed into that big old tree it would go in . and ya would think that after the first try we would have figured out that there was something else wrong but no we had to try beating it in on the tree . . Talk about being STUCK . Tryed just putting it down adding down pressure and draging it out, looked like a dog with a itchy rearend dragen it around. Then the two of us got the idea that well get Mikeys 450 D and that heavy old log chain and hook his tractor to the blade and just PULL it out , That did not work . Then we came up with this idea and this one falls under the heading of DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME . WE backed up to each other and tryed 4th gear full throttel side steppen the clutches , That did not work so lets try 5th gear . Did this twice and it came out , now the down side was it just did not drop to the ground but it went UP in the air as far as that twenty five foot chain let it go and for some reason it was going FASTER then Mikey's 450 could go . Good thing he was fast enough to make a left hand turn and the blade went flyen by him and when it hit the end of the chain it jerked the back of that tractor around about three feet . That balde fit fine WITHOUT the plates . BUt anyhow i am thinking that they are 7/16 thick buy 1 1/4 wide

Just a quick comment. This may or may not have any bearing...

I've got the 2pt-3pt factory adapter for a 300 or larger (its got the big points)...I've got a Super-C with the small points. TractorSam and I made some new points to put onto the adapter, and at least according to the measurements made off my small-point drawbar, the big points are 1/4" wider than the narrow points, and the overall span between the large points is 1/2" larger, outside to outside, than the small-point.

Like I said, I don't know if this has any bearing on reality or not, as I've never seen my adapter used in a 300...it may not actually fit, making my measurements and the point I'm trying to make above nul and void. However, I just figured I'd throw that out there, just in case.

Cheers,
AR

Glen: I've done these numerous times, and have 4 small forks with plate welded in, been there 20 years. Size of the flat bar is 1/2" x 1", length of exposed fork. If your not going to be using these implements on small hitch tractors, your best bet is spot weld them to the fork. They are rather a pain if you try to line them up every hitching. Great for finger injuries.

The factory ones that i bought from the I H dealer way back then were 1 1/4 wide and they had a roll pin in them on the side as a STOP block so they only went in so far . I did use them several times when we used the neighbors posthole auger as his was the small prong . They were not a problem on hook up as ya just slid them into the hitch and backed up to what ever and made the hook up . When ya unhooked they would slide out and fall on the ground , then ya would have to get off the tractor and pick them up and up them either back into the hitch or tool box.

Cub, Super A - 140 had a single large prong, same as the 300-up hitches.

Only the Super C - 240 had the dual small prongs. In hindsight, they probably should've just had one prong size.

Vet: I remember seeing those, however I never needed one until 1990 when I started building attachments for my 1 point 130. Started out one day on a search, came home that night with 4 small forks. Factory spacers were quite scarce by then, thus the scrap pile was the order of the day. I was never going to use them in a small hitch socket, thus spot welding was the best fix.

We bought a 240U that had been a Texas hwy dept tractor with no fast hitch. Dad bought a hitch somewhere and it bolted right up. We thought it was small prongs like the Super C, but came to find out it had the large prongs, so the blade we had for Super C had to use the spacers on the 240 and the 400. Maybe that hitch came off a 340U?

MKirsch: IH finally realized this and the 240 uses large size forks. All 240 fast hitch were built for large forks.

IaGary, You`re partially correct. The 806,706 have the same 3" prong size as 240,300 on up ,but the drawbar itself is alot thicker and heavier - almost half again as thick and heavy as the dickens!

Andrew, I think either your 2pt to 3pt adaptor or your drawbar is slightly sprung. The prong spacing on the small prong(2 1/2") and large prong (3")fast hitches should be the same.Spacing should be 28".I`ve also seen where the bail(wishbone part of hitch with the sockets) is sprung making it hard to get the drawbar in.

Guess I got lucky... my 240U has the factory 3 point adaptor. Only problem is the stabilizer bar has the "I bolt" twisted off, although I have the parts. I think the stabilizer is the same for the Fast Hitch as the 3 point. I was familiar with the Fast Hitch as Dad bought a new 1955 Super C in 1956, with a whole bunch of implements and later had a 460 row crop with the larger Fast Hitch. My nephew now has Dad"s old 460.... don"t know what ever happened tothe Super C.
