I got the 300 running

She purrs like a kitten. The previous owner said it has less than 100 hrs. on the newly rebuilt engine. I did what D Slater said and put the tranny in gear, the TA lever forward and the belt pully engaged. Started her up, released the clutch and just sat there. Engine sounded sweet, but, it still won't move and the belt pully didn't turn either. Sooo, what now folks?
Thanks, Dan

If I remember you said the main clutch was checked, so if the belt pulley box won't turn that means the shaft that drives transmission is not turning. Your trouble is in the center housing between engine and transmission. Probably the T/A clutch is slipping and the part of t/a unit that locks up for t/a mode is not holding. Does tractor make a whinning noise when you try to move it?

The clutch disc was checked and looked good. I don't really notice a whining noise. In fact,
I really don't notice a change in sounds when I release the clutch with anything either engaged or not. However, when we first started it, I engaged the belt pully and it rotated perfectly for about 10 minutes with no abnormal noise. While it was rotating, milky oil started coming out of the TA housing. I'm guessing from the vent. I disengaged it to check out the oil source and when I re-engaged it, it wouldn't rotate. Will the water in the oil cause any of this? I'm going to drain and renew all the fluids, but I don't want to do it yet if I'm going to have to go into the TA. What do you think?

No vents on t/a housing, I'm guessing the t/a clutch compartment is full of oil and water. Its supposed to be dry. Clutch I'm talking about is back around middle of housing. Is that the one you checked. Should be 2 holes on bottom of housing to keep fluid drained. Make sure there open. There's a cover on top of housing to look in t/a clutch compartment. Has 4 bolts holding it. Can't remember for sure but think the belt pulley gear box may be in the way of removing. Another thing to make sure of is the t/a clutch release bearing is not pushing on t/a pressure plate. On left side behind main clutch operating shaft is shaft to operate t/a clutch. pull pins from both linkage rods make sure shaft is not frooze. Counter clockwise moves bearing to fingers clockwise away, You can leave unhooked and see if trator will move if needed.

I would take the small 4 bolt cover off top of ta housing and watch 7 inch ta direct drive dry clutch to see if it is turning. There is a splined coupler between clutch shaft and ta sun gear that strips out sometimes. If that shaft is not turning ahead of coupler , problem is clutch. Some pressure plates have three cap screws to cap clutch for installation and must be removed other wise disc will not turn under load. If the ta clutch turns and belt pulley doesn"t, problem is ta. Oh, also, the splines on the 7 inch clutch can be stripped out. Be dam careful checking this stuff out if running and in gear. I would disable ignition and just operate starter with tractor in gear. The lube leaking out from below ( I think that is what you meant) is coming out of drip holes designed to rid center dry housing of oil leaking from ta seals.

Also you could see if belt pulley turns with trans in neutral, Unless something is trashed in there it should turn it with no other load. If you don't hear a whinning noise somehing may be striped or broken. If you split tractor at engine rear everything in drive line but the t/a unit itself can be removed. Whole housing has to come out to remove the t/a unit.

Pete, I removed the cover plate and turned the engine over and the clutch did turn. I started it up and the clutch still turns whether in hi or low, in gear or not and clutch in or out. With engine running, the clutch turns smoothly and doesn't make any unusual noise. With the engine stopped, I felt the clutch and it has free travel rotating about 1-1/2" either way. I can also move it up and down slightly. At one time, I put it in gear and released the clutch and it started to move. I put it in neutral to get down and remove some stuff from under the tractor and when I tried it again, it wouldn't move.

sounds like a major repair, I would take off belt pulley attachment and main cover over ta for a better look.

Agree with Pete, if the clutch carrier is turning and no pull( The piece with 3 ears and 6 bolts holding pressure plate on) You may as well take center housing out. Would sugjest getting a manual.

Pete, D, thanks. I know what to do now. I'll get a manual and see what happens. I've got a G-VI Moline in the shop I have to put back together first. Then I'll start on the 300. Thanks again for the help. Dan
