Question for Steven f/AZ

Sorry folks, I'm trying this again. I'm looking for the web page where you detailed the technique and fabrication needed to drive a hydraulic pump off the front of your H. I've seen posts in the archive where you detail some of the processes but I really enjoyed the website where you posted all that you did. Is that still up? I've lost the URL. Where may I find it? Thanks for all the work it took to document that.

If you have some specific questions I can help you out. There are so many ways to mount a hydraulic pump I would probably do things a little different next time...

I have a friendly machine shop that loves these little projects and cuts me a deal on the work because I'm not in a hurry so they basically tinker on their "free" time to do my projects... :)

Don't have the pages anymore, should have copied the HTML code and saved it on the computer... or at least printed them out so I could re-write it.

Didn't seem like too many people were interested at the time so I just let it go. Had more people tell me it wouldn't work and not to waste my time with it, I guess.

If I could do it over I would re-do the front bolster and put a direct shaft-drive pump inside it...

I'll probably be setting something up like your machine-shop's rig. I'll be getting a pump I can mount on the frame rail and drive with a chain. I'll need to know how they mounted the sprocket on the crankshaft. It looks like they handily got it in that narrow space between the fan shroud and everything else. I'll need to know how to set up the pressure relief so when the pressure get's too high, it's diverted back to the reservoir - that looks to be how you set up your pump. I remember your website article was very detailed with the valve and where you'd gotten it from Northern Tool (Hydraulics).

Perhaps that would be a worthy procedure to post in the "Articles" section of this website. I've just gotten a digital camera so I plan to post how I do it, when I get everything assembled in the Spring.

On the machine shop's rig, they just have a sprocket welded to a sleeve that fits over the end of the crankshaft and a roll pin driven through the hole where the crank pin was.

A chain will not hold up to full-throttle operation very long. They basically idle their tractor around the yard and use it for loading and unloading iron, etc.

I don't have a pressure relief valve on my system, but I DO have a priority flow valve so that the power steering gets oil first. Northerntool.com still has them for around $85 or so.
