Farmall Turbo

Myself i have never had a 460-560 with one but one of my old friends did . He had a bunch of problems With head gskts sucked a couple sleeves cracked the head a couple times Seamed like every spring Ernie would show up and ask if i had time to come up and do some plowing for him as the 560 was at the dealer and i would take my old 450 D and my 4x14 semi mounts and go plow for him . Kept telling him it was those darn Massey plows they just pulled to hard . I could run third gear with the 450 with my plows and if i hooked onto his it was 2 gear with the stick back most of the time on the hills , now don't go sayen that his 560 had more then the old 450 as that old 450 use to stomp him at every pull.

So did they (460 or 560's) come from the factory with Turbo's? Or were they added later? When did the turbo's first come on the tractors?

Have two 560d with turbos. They never came from the factory with turbos.M&W gear company built add on turbo kits for them and also you could get a kit from IH that was used on the TD9 B crawlers.Their fine as long you don't turn the fuel up to high, 10% would be all right.

No the 460-560 never came from the factory with a hair dryer on it and as to when the first turbo came out on any tractor now your taxen my old brain and as to who was the first here again i can not say . As for I H on a wheel tractor the 1206 was the first and in the industrial line up it would be the TD 9 91 series on the D282 or was it the 92 been way to long ago . But anyhow it was back in the sixtys that turbo's really started to come on the seen Trucks and BIG equipment had them before that.

I put a turbo on my old 560 and later when I bought my 706, had the same motor but the 706 truned a few more rpms. My 560 about 75 hp was about it could stand. I turned up the fuel and over did it at first and the motor would over heat when you pulled it heavy. It would run close to hot at 75 hp. Had it on the dyno and checked it. My 706 ,ran it at about 80 hp with a turbo and the fuel turned up. It handle it a little better becaused it ran at around 2100 rpm as the 560 ran about 1850 rpm.

So should I put a turbo on my 460 or not? I am not sure. Don't want to spend the bucks if I am going to break something.

We have a 560 with a turbo on it. It is an original IH turbo setup that was used on the 282 in an industrial application. Exhaust pipe comes out a lot closer to the radiator, not in the original location. Tractor runs excellent with the turbo, we have had it for over ten years and really haven't done much to it. Did have to do a head gasket once but that was due to running it wide open on the blower filling a 60 foot silo. We just don't work it that hard anymore. It had over 90 horse on the dino. We have a 706 with the 310 german with an m and w turbo setup and the 560 will run circles around it.
