We hauled 2 of them out of the woods last summer. Both were red with no signs of grey. I don't think they wre repainted .The lettering looked like factory painted on. (no decals) According to the serial numbers , one is a 36 & the other a 37.

Certainly not to argue because I have no reference other than my own tractor, which is a 35 model, but during the restoration process it had many traces of red paint on the transmission case as well as the inside frame rails. Rest of the tractor was brown (as in rust brown) My grandpa bought it new in 35 and he swears it was red when he bought it. Course gramps is 97 years old now, so it may not be the most accurate point of reference. ;)

The grey that the early tractors were painted was basically colored varnish. In many instances tractors that were in 'inventory' that sat outside for any amount of time would have to be repainted when the were sold by a dealer. By the time late 36 rolled around and they decided to switch colors, they actually had 'paint' that was red.

1st November 1936. according to the paint committee recommendations. My 1937 O-12 was built in December 1936 and was red underneath all the other reds and greens that had been painted over dirt and all. There was very little paint under the transmission apart from obvious runs from the original 1936 painting.

Same here. My grandpa bought his f-12 new in 1935 and it was red. When I restored it I could not find any color other than the Red; I did a frame up restoration too!

This question has been a issue for quite a while now. I too have a 35 and I haven't found any grey on it either. It had been repainted years ago and still has the old water type decals on the tank. but I never found grey under the Ujoint shield or anywhere else it may have ran....yet anyway.

Nothing but red on my '35
