How much play should be on countershaft front to back ? I have 1/4 inch.I have pics of main drive gears if thay come through.I dont know if i can reuse them. Trans was jumping out of 5 gear. I found pilot bearing bad I dont know if that was my problem.

Much less than that (it sounds like an entire thrust washer is gone (or two))
The center or intermediate bearing can cause jumping out, but it usually also causes spline wear on the fifth engagement slider, and the drive teeth for it. Many posts are in the archives (search for).
caseih.com has the parts diagram on line. JimN

Counter shaft or the lower shaft in transmission should have near zero to very little play front to rear. The front bearing on that shaft along with hydraulic drive coupling nut being tight controls the end play if all other parts are intact.
