If anyone has a factory ROPS for a small frame row crop I would like to get some measurements. Basically I need the overall height from the axle housing to the top, and trying to get an idea of the lean back angle. In the pictures I have seen it appears to be about the same angle as the rear of the fender. Also dimensions of the plates where the fenders bolt on. Thanks, Trent.

Just a word of caution. If you make one for yourself, and you are good at it and follow the mounting of a OEM ROPS, and use the same or better mounting bolts to the same depth. You are going to protect your self far better than nothing (possibly better than OEM. But selling it, or making it for someone else, or selling the tractor with it on the tractor, is a very serious liability. I would have written components of the sales agreement stating it is a non-factory canopy with no intended ROPS. get a copy and put it where it will not be lost. Home made (better than good as, perfect) items are all subjected to lawsuits. when things go bad they go really bad. JimN

I am building it for my own use. No plans of selling the tractor for a very long time. Primary purpose is for a sunshade, but it is going to be plenty strong too. Not much chance of a roll over either as the tractor has a wide front and is the rear is set on 86" center to center of the wheels. Tractor is used for spraying and I think my risk of skin cancer is much higher than my risk of rolling over.

The best answer (I do not have any tractors in that series) is to find one and measure it. Again I knew of an individual that had serious legal issues from a device made for someone else.

I'm not sure I've seen a factory rops that I'd completely trust. Not enough gusseting and cross/X bracing to keep it from collapsing like scissors. Not heavy enough metal for the rollover force(weight times speed of rollover, etc.) Then the weak points are the attachment points. Anything under 1" bolts for the axle attachments are suspect. The front attachments may just be welded onto plate held by a few little bolts and not necessarily the frame.

Finally, just like cars, a seat belt is a must or you end up getting thrown and then rolled over on.

That lawsuit could come from a member of your own family as well. Just like in a car accident where the driver is at fault(negligent) and the passenger(s) who are probably family member(s) such as a wife or kids get hurt. They end up having to sue their own Husband/dad/driver to collect under their own car insurance. Happens all the time.
