OWNERS MANUALS

IS external_link A REPUTABLE PLACE TO BUY OWNERS MANUALS? IS THERE A CHEAPER PLACE AROUND TO BUY SOME? THANKS FOR THE HELP!

Binder Books for the most part (some Blue Ribbon manuals are photocopies) are digital copies, very clear print and diagrams. Cheap (ebay) isn't always best.

Stay away from manuels for sale on e-bay , Poor quality photo copied info most of the time. I have been pleased with binder books also.

Binder books is licensed by Case IH to reproduce their books. Many who sell cheaper are not. That is a deciding factor to me. I do not knowingly pay money to thieves.

So, do Binder's manuals look like the originals or are they bound with those cheap plastic spiral thingys like Jensales? Are they exact reproductions or do they have "customized" cover pages?

There's a guy on eBay, "bsharptwo" who was doing some excellent reproductions. He doesn't have any auctions up right now though.

Most of theirs that I have (operators, Blue Ribbon Service and assorted implement manuals) are staple bound like the originals, with similar/same weight and type of paper. I have the original for my BN and the BinderBooks repro, and the only difference is BB skipped the IH advertisement inside the front cover and replaced it with their CaseIH license. That and their cover is red instead of the buff color of the original.

The exception on the binding is the parts catalogs that I've gotten from them. Those have all been unbound, but punched for a three ring binder. That works fine for me. The one original parts catalog I have has a flat spine and doesn't like to lay open, so the three-ring loose-leaf works better for me in that case.

Another point, and I don't know if it applies to their parts books for other tractors, but the one I got from them for my SuperC is the edition from 1960, so it has a fuller range of changes and additions to part numbers than a catalog from 1951 would have had.

If you get new manuals from CaseIH, they generally have a cover that looks like their current manuals. A reprint from Binder usually has a cover that matches the time frame of the original manual. IH used several different colors at different times, some depending on the type of manual. Original Parts Catalogs from IH were bound or 3-hole punched. I haven't found any rule on when which was used. It may be that dealers could order them either way. I have samples from the same general time frames that were done each way. From what I have seen, it appears that Binder's reprints are (at least usually) the latest revision, which is what you will get on a new order from CaseIH. If you find an old original manual, it may be any version. Sometimes it is helpful to have both the latest revision and one from as close as you can find to the date your machine was built.

There are more details about manuals in the Nov-Dec 2008 Red Power Magazine, which I am not going to retype here.
