H/SH Mud Guard Mounting Question

Howdy, boys:
You know how the mud guard mounts under the frame rails and is held in place with four short bolts? Well, when I bought my stage II, it did not have a mud guard on it. I found one and when I started to install it, I quickly learned that while all four holes were in the frame rail bottoms, the solid engine mounts blocked the rear two holes. I wonder what's the deal with that - have the engine mounts been swapped from one side to another and the holes don't line up, or if there just weren't any holes for some reason?
No big deal, I guess, since I can drill and tap some holes in the engine mounts, but I just wondered if anyone knew the answer to this little mystery.....
Thanks as always for all the help on our fun forum.

Mike, would have to look to be sure but I don't remember rear mounting bolts for the dust shield back as far as the mounts.

Thanks, Dave. I don't know..... but the solid engine mounts are what is blocking the two holes most rearward. The pan lines up nicely on all four holes and I can see threads in the frame rails in all four. Maybe I've got some kind of homemade engine mounts, but the tractor is so original.... mike

After looking the SH with late style bolster uses a different shield than most H and early SH.
Don't take much to hold the shield. I think a short bolt up to just missing mount would hold. Holes should be threaded 5/16 NC. Think I remember some solid mounts have a cut out in side, but can't remember if yours do.

mike - none of mine have the mud guard anymore
if I get a chance to check I"ll see if I can tell if the motor mounts on mine have a hole or threads - freezing rain here most all of last night - "bout killed myself on the ice doing chores, guess I"m not that graceful anymore ...

Dave - yes, that is correct. I have a stage II with the late style bolster and I have the correct late style shield with the cut outs on each side. Thanks. mike

Hello, Pat. Thanks for your offer. That would be a great help, but don't bust your - ah... don't hurt yourself on the ice for something this unimportant. I look forward to hearing what you find out. mike
